Shattered Union issues

Hi. I just purchased a download version of the game "Shattered Union". The problem I am having with it is that whenever the game loads for a campaign or skirmish and I click the "begin" button, the game stops working. I am on Windows Vista with an Intel graphics card 256 mb. Does anybody know how I can solve this? I also have Medieval II Total War and that game works fine. I am wondering if it is a DirectX issue?
