I wouldn't count on Crysis running too well on that setup. I'm sure it will run on lower settings...but all the nice eye candy will no doubt be too much for an 8600gt to handle. I have an 8800gt and 2gb ram with a dual core Opty running at 2.8ghz and still cant see all of the eye candy. Its a hell of a game though. And I am certainly not saying that an 8600gt is a **** card. It's worth the money and will play just about anything else you throw at it pretty well. Crysis is just a beast.
well im not expecting to max it out or anything but apparently i should be able to play on all medium settings at 1024 by 768 which is okay for me.
views on bioshock?
any more must play games?
what about gears of war?

yeh, crysis requires at least an 8800GT to run with half-decent graphics setting, so an 8600gt will struggle. i'm sure you could play bioshock on mostly high settings and most other games in the past few years should run alright on 8600gt.
i have 8500gt and have to run most games on pretty low settings to get them to run smoothly with at least 30fps, so i'm guessing 8600gt won't be a huge amount better.
nonetheless 8600gt is good value, just don't expect too much from it.
dont worry im not expecting much, just wondering what games i should be getting. maxed out or not i dont really mind

although i find it boring now, you might want to get COD4. It's very popular on PC online.

HL2 is a must have...and I played it maxed on a 7600gt at 1440x900...and with my old 7950gt I could run it with aa and af at 4x. Should run nice on an 8600gt. NFS Carbon should also run nice on it. COD4 is good...a bit short...but the same can be said for Crysis. Also you should check out STALKER, Oblivion, FEAR.
Damn..come to think of it, 2006-2008 has been a good time for gaming. There are alot of good titles out. I just hope we see a GTA IV port for PC.

dang, i'm starting to wish i went straight for the 8600GT instead of 8500GT. Didn't cost a lot more and would have got better graphics capabilities.
oh well, hopefully other graphics cards will have gone down in price in a few months.

i thought the 8500gt would be alright and it was a bit cheaper. And it was the first card i installed and i didn't want to mess it up. that's why i got 8500gt instead. still alright for most games i play though.

haha, i wouldnt worry if i were you. no matter what card you get you will always think that, theres always a more powerful one or better bang for buck. its insane how many come out. just be happy with what ya got! its ridiculous how much some people spend.
i cant help being jealous of 9800gx2 in quad sli though!

yeh you're right, i should be happy with the card i've got for now - it was a huge improvement from the previous card i had. only had it for about 2 months and already i want to upgrade - that's bad!
imagine the graphics capabilities of a PC with two 9800 GX2s! You'd probably get over 200 frames per sec with crysis on max graphics settings.

lol, he's still only getting 60-70 frames per sec. You're right, Crysis is so pointlessly advanced graphically! then again, he is testing it on high resolution when usually most people would probably have it on 1024x768 on a 17" monitor.
ah i wish games were more about gameplay. im sick of having to check system requirements.
anyway was it difficult to install your gpu?

nope, installing is the easiest thing to do; choosing is the most difficult part! :)

yep, just type "install graphics card" in youtube and you'll find some very useful guides as to how to install a graphics card. That's the way i learnt how to install my graphics card.
And installing RAM is even easier. One day I'd like to build my own PC - the sense of achievement of building your own PC must feel so good.
i cant remember if i made a thread about this....anyway i was just wondering do i need to know anything else when buying my gpu cos il go mental if it doesnt work for some reason.
i have pci e 16, 300w psu......anything else important??

nope, i think you should be fine. just watch an installation guide video on youtube and you should have all the knowledge you need.
thanks. i just thought, is it stupid to get an 8600gt if im only gonna play in dx9? what os are you using?

not at all ,if anything it might run better, i think the card was made before vista anyway

That PSU is 50/50. If you install your card and start to notice strange problems like random freezes, freezes in games that didn't freeze before, or system restarts it would most likely be the PSU.

I would say try the demo for Crysis first - i don't think you'll be able to play it on high settings though, so don't expect too much,
>there's a demo for Battlefield 2142 worth trying
>a demo for Unreal tournament 3
>I'd get battlefield 2 - it's a must have if you're into shooters
>Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
>Halo 2 is quite fun if you have vista or can get it to work on XP
>the rainbow six vegas games are very fun - and they're not you're typical run and gun games
>try the demo for COD4 - i personally think it's an over-rated game, but you might really like it
>GTA San Andreas is one of my fave games of all time
>possibly Gears of War but you have to pay for a Live account to play online multiplayer which sucks when you think how average the multiplayer actually is - should be free and the single player you'll get bored of quickly
