I'm trying to install some things from a DVD+R disc onto my old PC. Not sure how old, bit I'm guessing we bought it sometime in 2002.

Whenever, I put the DVD+R disc in, it makes funny noises. I think it is the optical reader jumping back and forth. It takes ages to recognise the disc and when i get to the contents inside the disc, it freezes a lot and is very slow. It takes at least 5 minutes just to get to the contents. And after a very long wait I still haven't been able to get to the program I want successfully.

Are DVD+R a relatively new so it is incompatible with the old disc drive? Is there anything I can do to make the drive read DVD+R discs faster?

Thanks for reading this and any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

I have the same problem but with certain types of cd-r. Maybe it's the brand?

the DVD+R is in good condition; it works on my other PC. I suspect it must be because the old disc drive is incompatible as it was bought quite a while back when DVD+Rs weren't around.

I think you may well have just answered your own question there.

a DVD+R is relatively new. is your disk drive DVD:Writer or just reader if it is Writer it is the disk or computer because for some reason DVD+R hate some computers and love others...(don't ask me why, We had the same problem with a latest computer at my work and it worked on another model even after we tried all manner of things even changing the disk drive.
