I am curious how many gamers who play online ultimately join or form gaming clans and if you did, what was the game. Some stories would be cool.

For me it was a killer gamer called Freelancer. After a year of playing solo, I joined a clan of mercenaries called the Hunters Guild. The clan never really took off so after it failed, I formed my own mercenary clan called the Blood Brothers. While the game has since died, my clanmates still hang together on our forums. Waiting for a new game to reunite our desire for battle and more importantly, profit. (I like being dramatic.)

For the longest time I was against the idea of joining a clan. I didn't like having to take another's orders or worry about how others worked with me.

I joined the HG out of necessity. They were the only merc clan on the server and my solo business was being put under by their superior numbers. When they fell apart though, I found I enjoyed role-playing with others so I built the Blood Brothers.

Now over two years later, even without a game we still talk and hunt for a new game (Looking at Sins of a Solar Empire right now).

Well... In almost every MMO I played I was at least in 2 clans. Clans are always fun and you don't take orders from no one except if you have a noob clan master but that has never happened to me since I always get in a friendly clan. I wouldn't really enjoy MMO's that much without clans.. if nothing you have someone to talk to or ask for help when need it.

I was a clan master once on a game called Legend of Ares.. It was a decent clan and we had a lot of lvl 100+, we had our moments and killing bosses was simply awesome, we were really close and played together all day, of course there was some sad and lame moments like when someone quits the game or betrays the whole clan or cheats it abusing its high rank within it, anyways.. later on hacks appeared in the game and suddenly people were lvl 10x in a matter of days/weeks which was a shock to old players that played for months or even years to reach high lvls and get gears from bosses so after some time I decided to quit the game and put my best friend and gamer in clan to be the clan master, later I found out that most of the players in my clan quit and it lost its popularity and strength so it was abandoned.

I had a lot of clan stories but I this clan was the best for me since Legend of Ares was one of my first MMO's and I met a lot of good people in it.

Also, I played Freelancer as well.. The lvl up system was slow as hell.. It took my like 2 days to come to lvl 10, in private servers that give the best spaceships and equipment at the beginning I didn't really enjoy because I was lost in game and only thing left to do is kill others which was pretty hard because all of us had the l33t equipment >_> but I enjoyed it Single Player and is the best game of that type I played.

I play GunZ on occasion, but just never thought of joining up with a clan, I just felt, meh, all I do is play quests, even though I did make a good number of friends.

Level was only equal to your cash levels so I never cared about it and I agree that it is the best game of this type ever made. So naturally MS dissolved the studio that made it.

What I really miss was that the MP was FREE. These MMO's today with their monthly costs kill me.

Definitely proof that I have no life. After I learned the Superjump trick, I spent a month mapping the entire jump map and the locations the superjumps landed you. Sold it for 10 million a map. Made 450mill selling those maps and having them made evading other clans that didn't like us much easier.

Hey,
well I normally join clans if I get right into the game. If im just jumping on a server for a mess about then I dont bother.

The biggest clan I've been in was for CounterStrike 1.6 where I was in clans etc but then made my own for bout a year, went to i33 but cs 1.6 was just dead there. Clan folded after i33 :(

clans are awesome, i was in a halo clan and my first tryout i was nervous since the guy even had a host advantage on me but i still won in the end =) 9-9 tie 10-9 win
but that was WAY back when halo trial came out, after that i've just been playing games kinda solo except for a few good friends, i really only need 2-3 good people in a mmo or fps to have fun

I've never been in a clan to be honest. I don't play online so much so I've never really had the chance to. I'd like to be a pro gamer and have a gaming clan, but there is no chance as I just plain don't have the time.
