hey guys, heres the vid i said i´d post to prove that a 8600gt can run crysis, i did it with XP coz i coudnt be bothered to reboot into vista, all settings are set to high except shaders and shadows, the res is 1280x1024 fps rate was about 20-25 (fps rate was limited because of my recording software, i usually get about 10 more fps when the recorder is turned off)

enjoy and plz rate :p

(theres no sound, and sorry about the jumps every minute i can only record in 1 min chunks)

didn't you change the shadow setting half way through, haha? that's pleasing to know that you can get such good frame rate with 8600GT even though it's hard to believe. coz then i know what sort of similar card i c could get and be able to play this game. man i can't wait!

EDIT: it's really blurry but haven't you actually got shaders and shadow on low, which would make sense how you get decent frame rate.

i've heard that shaders does cripple the frame rate the most. and i can tell that there's no shadow coz at 1:00 it should be dark under that hut like thing.

you said it was all on high settings, i think you're trying to trick us here! you liar lol!

EDIT2: oh right, sorry, i didn't read what you posted!! my bad!

thanks for letting me know what performance you can get in crysis with that card. it gives me more to look forward to with the 7950GT! i still don't want to get the 8600GT.

you can say "ha i told you so" when i get crappy framerate with the 7950GT. but bare in mind, the rest of my PC is not in par, so i think it'll bottleneck the 7950GT

EDIT3: btw, what framerate do you get if you turn up shadows or shader?

i wasnt lying :p its all true, if i turn shaders and shadows on high the fps drops from 30 to about 14 average, im not sure about the fps if i put them on medium since i´ve never tryed it.

its a lil blurry coz i managed to squish the video file down to 30MB (originaly 120Mb!!!) i didnt really feel like staying up all night uploading it

This is good to see. I'm glad you can play Crysis on High w/ a 8600GT. However, I really think that your title is a little misleading. Max settings would be more like 1680x1050, All settings Very high, max AA, and of course in DX10 and not 9.

Your results don't surprise me, its at a low resolution, under DX9 at an average framerate. Also you didn't mention your AA settings

well for me 1280x1024 is the highest it will go, i turned off aa. i can however get more or less the same results when i run crysis in vista dx10 on very high

There are the weakpoints of the 8600GT for you. Low resolutions, barely playable framerates that worsen with the application of AA. It is fine for those who just want to play, but for Hardware Enthusiasts like myself it is just unacceptable. The 8600GT was no doubt a decent entry level card for people who just wanted to play, but now it just isn't a smart choice for those who are buying a new graphics card.

Exactly my thoughts, thanks for saving me from typing it all. :D

I never said unbearable, it's just at the very bottom of the playable spectrum. 25fps is what I would consider as the lowest playable frame rate. It's just not great, that's what I was saying.

still 8600gt is ok for low budget ppl, and for my exp with crysis even 8800gt cant handle it well on max setting :>

ture. I have an 8800GT and I can use all high...but I doubt the performance would be as good if I went with vista and dx10.

all dx10 is , is an extra setting ..... "very high" u cant really tell the difference anyway, i can run the same settings as the video but using very high and only lose 1 fps
