Mortal Kombat: Deception - (Released 2005)
Warning: Spoilers included from previous game.
This is the 6th installment to the Mortal Kombat franchise, published by Midway as usual with the prequels of the series, this game has evolved somewhat from the earlier releases, evolving both graphics wise, and game play wise.
This installment picks off where Deadly Alliance left off, since Earth's mightiest Shao Lin Monk Warrior Liu Kang was killed by the Sorcerors Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, they sought to go after the Thunder God Raiden. The epic battle of Mortal Kombat between the three seemed to favour the two against Raiden, until they both turned against each other, realising that there could only be one ruler of outworld as well as the other realms, until..........The true ruler of Outworld returned to take back what was rightfully his.....the Dragon King Onaga, realising what they were up against Quan Chi, Shang Tsung and Raiden joined together to stop the Dragon King from pursuing ever closer, Raiden tried a desperation attack on the beast, but his sacrifice was in vein....
Back to the game itself, it has many new features added to make the game more fun and user friendly.
Off course you have the original characters such as Sub Zero, Scorpion and Sonya just to name a few....
MKD still has it's original arcade mode, where you choose a certain difficulty choosing a character to fight with, and try to bring down the mighty Onaga who is the antagonist of this game, as well as it's main "bad guy".
You also get different selections that's new such as Mortal Kombat Chess, where you play the game, but it's more of a twist, "Mortal Kombat style", another gaming addition is a Tetris like game, adding the all so cool Mortal Kombat styling to it, where it's a little more than just lining up a row to win ;)
In the game however, there is an RPG mode called "Konquest", that really impressed me, where you're a character named "Shujinko" who is the protagonist and the main "good guy" of the game, who travels around different areas, completing certain missions (some hard, some annoying, and some plain funny) as well as travelling around the other realms such as Edenia, Outworld and the Etherealm which is a lot of fun.
He follows the orders of this weird light being, that tells him of what to do, and the main objective which is to retrieve the Kamidogu's(which are objects of mass power, that whoever owns all of them gain control over all of the realms).
Finish Konquest Mode and you'll see what led up to the scenes in the beginning of the game, about both how and why Onaga came back.
There is also a currency system in MKD in the form of coins whether it'd be Jade coins, Sapphire Coins or Onyx Coins, which only have one purpose really and that is to open up certain "Krypts" to either retrieve something awesome like a Character Bio, or a CHARACTER itself, or open up something lame such as a picture of one of the developers, or an art conception (which I find boring). There are various ways to collect the coins such as Fighting in the arcade, or finding them within the Konquest Mode, or even playing the games such as Mortal Kombat Chess or Tetris....
Almost forgetting to add that you do need to make a character profile, as well as a Password in the form of the buttons of your controller...
The Krypt is a graveyard basically, which is filled with Graves, in which you need certain coins to open......you can access this part of the game anytime...
Overall, the game wasn't that bad to be honest, the arcade mode was awesome as usual, however defeating Onaga wasn't as easy as I originally thought, the graphics were simply amazing and the Konquest Mode was just awesome...
Next to the previous games this one is definitely up there as one of the best, so let's hope by reading this review that we have learnt something....otherwise it's MORTAL KOMBAT... I know lame xD
