'Necronomicon' by H.P. Lovecraft, and 'Song of ice and fire' by George R.R. Martin. Martins fantasy novels are top notch, by far my favourites of the genre. Also a really good book is 'The short history of time' by Stephen Hawking or the newer version 'Shorter history of time'. They both are excellent evening reading and quite mind-expanding experience, and succesfully present the basic ideas and mind-games for the common people. For those interested in teory of relativity or physics in general, I recommend these two books.

As far as easy books go, that are good of course, try The Underdogs. It's spanish but they have good english translations, and I swear it's a good book. Not sci-fi or anything, it's about the mexican revolution... I know, shut up... I promise it's good. So go and read it...

Hehehe... you're right but I must admit I didn't really looked at it this way. Dharma Bums was just a pleasent reading and I think I just didn't noticed those "boring" moments... I did had it on "unfinished pile" for a moment as well (but that's probably and mostly because of other unfinished bookes). Anyways The Dharma Bums is finished now and I need to tell you that it really made me feel like going out to wilderness for couple of days like they did. Currently continuing with the Gears Of War books, finished Anvil Gate earlier today and now I'm on Coalition's End, the final book before the third game. It's pretty good how it starts with a Gears timeline featuring events from the previous books, kind've like a recap if people forgot or got confusing by the flashbacks. Asunder: Dragon Age 3 book came today and I've been reading through that, love how it has a map of Orlais aswell. It does have an Origins feel to it and if you're a fan of DA and want to know more of what happened after the mage incident in Kirkwall then this is the book to read. It had a unique first chapter to it too.

Im reading Thomas Emson's - Zombie Britannica. Brilliant brilliant book, Im on my 3rd time reading it. Its about zombies in England (duh) The story is split into 3 scenerios, One in Uk, the other in Scotland, And one in Wales. Each focused on one characture and how they are dealing with the invasion. Gory, decent plot, and short chapters which really get you stuck in. Would recommend for people who enjoy Zombie books, post apocolyptic, I am legend kinda ways.

I've started reading the Dragon Age comic series that started recently, it's very well written and designed, can't stop reading. Also watching Buffy Season 8 motion comic on Blu-Ray, still need to get used to the voices, and the story, but it's decent enough. Also aquired the Mass Effect digital comic so plan on reading that after DA.

Friends again?

Basically its a non-fiction book about people who are reunited via social networking. Some end in love, divorce and even murder. Its a very interesting read. One story is about a farmer who's wife was cheating on him with an old lover she found on friends reunited. He murdered her, but they never found her. Its rumoured that he fed her to his pigs. How grim.

I recently read Ari Marmell's 'The Conqueror's Shadow' - Book 1 of the Corvis Rebaine series - and to be honest, I'm a little unsure how I feel about it. The main plot idea is very appealing to me but I found the execution of the story to be lacking.

Firstly, the story is set after events that are only referred to as piecemail backstory. That isn't a problem, except that it is done in such a way that I feel like I've entered a room halfway through a conversation and I just don't quite get what everyone is talking about. It almost feels like an 'in joke' or 'in story' that I'm just not 'in' with.

Secondly, Marmell tries too hard to be quirky and/or funny. Often using jokes that feel wrong for a fantasy world; jokes that are far too 'our world' to sit well within the story. As such, I kept being reminded that I was reading a book and that annoyed me because I like to be immersed in the story.

Then there is the main character, Corvis Rebaine. Referred to as 'The Terror of the East'. I understand that he has mellowed with age and love but there is no real sense that the man in The Conqueror's Shadow could have ever been the man referred to in the backstory. Marmell makes him far too, well, bumbling. Sure, he did what he had to do because he felt it was necessary but any man willing and able to cut a bloody path through a country killing any and all isn't going to keep saying 'Ummm' anytime someone asks him a damn question! And he is going to be much more capable than the character we are given. How he managed to survive to see a sequel is somewhat beyond me.

Then there are all the secondary characters that obviously have wonderful, fleshed out backgrounds - only Marmell choses not to share them with us. Would you please stop alluding to things that we have no knowledge of if you're not going to share it with us?

All in all, it felt like a really well writen fanfic.

Despite all that, I did find myself enjoying the story more often than not and I am now considering reading the sequel - The Warlord's Daughter.

(Some of you might recognise Ari Marmell's name from all the DND books he has writen and his Darksiders novel.

Excellently written and fit into the Gears verse very well. I'll admit, I had serious doubts that the kind of action we're used to in a Gears game would translate well in a novel but Traviss has done a brilliant job. Didn't see this sorry Willo, so a tad late.

It's more of a crime thriller than anything, but with very good twists and turns, which I'm sure most books of that genre promise. Lots of characters and sub-story lines so it makes for a good book series. I particularly liked it because I randomly purchased it, never hearing of it before, so it was a nice surprise. I find with the big, already established authors you kinda know where the story is going already.

I've gotten the 3rd one to read in June whilst I'm away too, so i'll let you know if thats as good.

Also I ordered the Sancti trilogy yesterday, I had over £100 left to spend on a Blackwells card from Uni, and seeing as I don't need any more Uni books now I bought the set of books and a bunch of DVD's.

How the hell has it sold so many copies? I mean, Anastasia. She calls her uhum her sex. She bites her lip so many times I'm surprised it hasn't fallen off and she has uttered the words 'oh my' more then any other words wrote in the book. It was terrible. The writing is horrendous, and the author tries to make you think deep about the characters, but I didn't like any of them. Poor poor poor, after learning the ending as well, what a predictable piece of dumb literature.

The Last Coyote. I'm liking it so far, I started reading another book called Ripper as well, but I quit reading it when I found out that it's kind-of a sequel.

Been reading quite a few graphic novels lately. Read Kick-Ass on my flight to Greece a few weeks ago, Punk Rock Jesus while I was there, Kick-Ass 2 Prelude : Hitgirl on my flight back home, and I'm currently reading Kick-Ass 2.

Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut and Alhazred by Donald Tyson. The first one seems to be a reality-questioning sci-fi novel, it was recommended to me by a friend. Alhazred is a novel following the story of the guy who wrote the Necronomicon in the Cthulhu Mythos.

Well I stumbled into a reading kick as of late. Went into my local bookshop the other day and purchased World War Z. I saw the movie earlier this year, and most other people I saw it with or talk about it to say that the book is way better. So, why not read it then haha

I went to watch 'Filth' based on Irvine Welsh's in cinema the other day. I often manage to get into 18s, but it just happened that the person working there knew me and... wasn't hugely fond of me. But having heard good things and recently finished Welsh's 'Trainspotting' trilogy.
So far there's been:
Countless perverse thoughts
Stealing from old women
A large share of racism
Harassing the homeless
In depth descriptions of flaky genitals
Sexual abuse of underage girls
And a strangely philosophical tapeworm.

Considering I'm only half way through, Welsh really has surpassed himself on the 'I can't believe I said I'd lend my grandma this when I'm done' scale.

Did you happen to see the movie? It .. was not awesome. However, I took some enjoyment in the end but I imagine that the book did it better.

Allegiant by Veronica Roth. 3rd book of her Divergent Series. I'm in love with this series, and I can't wait for the movie this year!
