Street Fighter Alpha Anthology - Playstation 2 (2006)

Whether you are a serious gamer or not, you would have heard of the most influential fighting game of all time. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology puts all of the Alpha version edits of Street fighter onto your console, as well as a Japan only bonus title, Pocket Fighter/Gem Fighter. The game retails lower then normal games, which makes it even more of a bargain.

The package includes Alpha's 1,2,3 and unlockable bonus versions of all of those, plus Pocket Fighter, which is basically a sort of party game fighter where Ryu, Ken etc. are kid sized. Its a cool break of the system to go from hardcore arcade fighting to party fighting using combos to perform strange moves such as throwing bombs, chairs and hitting people with signposts. You will find every single Street Fighter character in this game, excluding the new age ones from Street Fighter III characters. As well as being a great collectors items, you've got the most up to date versions of a great series, this is a completist's dream.

The graphics remain untouched, apart from a filter option which blurs pixels and makes the game look cleaner, but whether you turn this on or not, the graphics haven't really aged and still have an old school charm to them. The sound has aged, but it adds to the experience hearing midi music and out dated foley during fights.

The games single and multiplayer are still are awesome experience, and if you have some friends over you will be entertained for hours pulling off specials and combo's, and messing around with the wealth of characters and games at your disposal.

To this day, Street Fighter still retains its charm, and delivers fast paced action and excitement,. The fact that Capcom have put their best fighters all into one package makes Street Fighter Alpha Anthology a extremely worthy addition to your library of games, and shouldn't be missed by anyone. Get this game.

Score : 9/10

Could be worth getting. I only own Street Fighter Alpha 3 on GBA.

I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to Street Fighter games though. The greatest and most balanced for me is Street Fighter II - World Warrior on the SNES. The two sequels to that, Street Fighter II Turbo and Super Street Fighter II were also pretty decent.....but I felt after that the series went downhill.

Hey, nice review Prometheus.

SF2, SFA... my favourite games of all time. In the office we have a MAME arcade cabinet with these roms installed. SFA makes a great distraction from work :)

Alpha was ok on the PS2 that is, but nothing can compare to the classic on the SNES, no not the crappy ones, I'm talking about SF2 World Warrior :D
