hi

i dont know why, but my computer either automatically shuts off, or restarts even when i press no keys. this is only when i try to start certain games like counter strike - condition zero, grand theft auto - vice city, and commandos 3 - destination berlin, among others. im at a loss  as to why it happens, and would appreciate any replies as to the possible causes behind it, and remedies, if possible.

please note that i have an intel pentium 4 processor, and an intel 82845G motherboard. the graphics are poor, and im considering upgrading soon.

thanking you all,
waiting for replies,

ok...
this could be caused by a couple of things i will list below.

1.This could be caused because your computer has been configured to save power follow the following pictures to fix this
1a.

2b.

2. You could have a virus on your pc and should consider reformatting it. Try an AntiVirus program (Norton the best).
3. You heard of MSN messenger 8.0 ? someone released it and apparently it was a virus. if u just talked to someone who might have downloaded it you could have been infected.
4. You might have Spyware on your PC. try an anti-spyware program (alot of them out there that wont do a thing) be careful what program u choose. If you do have spyware on your pc that means that ur very vulnerable to hackers and they could change your preferences that you have right now or even shutdown, restart or close programs your using.
5. If your sure none of these are your problem then send another post here and ill explain further into it. Glad to help

i dont think it will be the ram cuz i had a problem withram a couple of months ago and it just got the game stuck.. sometimes it closed down the game but messages came up telling me that im short on virtual memory or ram as u might call it

ive got 512mb of RAM, but hardly any graphics. my motherboard is an ancient 82845G (intel), and ive got a 2.4GHz processor. i havent got any extra graphics cards, because i dont have a slot for one :(. sometimes i think my PC is so damn ancient, it'd make the Huns look like advanced guys somewhere from 3000 A.D. hehhehheh

Hi friend I think I know your problem. Lethal chicken very nice presentation indeed congratulations . Now , I had this problem a year ago , some documents regarding the OS went corrupt during a process and this caused my graphics card to shut down after a short period of time or when initiating heavy games such as DOOM. I though it was just a power problem and I bought a new power supply system , when the problem started occuring more often I though my AGP slot was faulty , weeks later I found out the OS system and a format and re-instalation of the XP OS brought peace to my PC. If you want to check for faulty documents ,folders etc. You shuld run your diagnostics programm. I know this reply won't help you much but it may work. It worked for me though...

thanks, ill be sure to try it out.

just for general notice, im gonna buy a new PC near early May, which is gonna be based purely for gaming. this PC will then be just for the net access, and for miscellaneous documents. hence, i probably wont be playing any games at all on this PC, except for online games. im not getting a net connection for my new PC to prevent any chance of virus-infections. "prevention is always better than cure.......epecially in case of computer viruses, hehhehhehheh ;)"
