One way of doing this for free is setting up Shareaza on both PCs. Shareaza lets you track down individual users and then browse what they have in their shared folder and download what you need.

When I was using this is was just setting up friends with decent firewalls and virus protection and other quite small .exe files.

From your post it looks like you want to be able to have all your files available to both...I dont think there is a way to do that for nothing...if there is I want to know too!:D

what operating system have you got? winxp i guess?

why do you need to access your files?

p2p is very insecure and I wouldnt suggest it.....

but if its for shifting stuff around etc... then there are some good remote desktop clients out there that are *free* (if you know what i mean). Just do a google on it.

You could go for VPN access if you are paranoid or have the connection open for a long time - but if its just access you need, i guess remote desktop is your best bet.

The only other option is setting your PC up as an FTP server - which would need a fixed IP and I wouldnt suggest it unless you KNOW what you are doing.

Cheers for the replies. The 300gig is music and i basically want to be able to access it from my computer at work and while round friends houses. I will look up remote desktop and see whats that like :p

Try going to www.gotomypc.com

They have a program that allows remote access to your computer that works very well.
