Has there been any mention of a ps2 pricedrop during the holiday season. I've only got a couple of ps2 games and only want to pay about $100. My launch ps2 is giving me disk read errors

I'd be surprised if they didn't drop the price at/around the holiday season. What with the Xbox 360 releasing at the same time, and with it being very expensive [comparatively], a lowered price point could help draw some attention away from Microsoft. And of course attention being given to the PS2's huge library, versus the 360's limited launch library.

you will probably see a price drop around the time the 360 will come out...probably to 129.99

yea, my ps2 has DREs too :( not good...it couldnt read lego star wars :(

I really wanted a slim ps2, I might have a trade with my brother for his older one. He wants NBA live and Far Cry for his. Hopefully I'll pick them up on sale this weekend.

His older model already has a network adaptor. Doubt I'll use it since i'm on xbox live. As long as the total is under $80 for his games I'll take it :D

well a friend is selling me a slim ps2 for real cheap. The only problem is the power button is stuck, and it won't power up  I don't know if its woth it or not.

Hmm....Being able to turn the thing on is a useful, some may say essential, feature.
The question would be, "how cheap" and "how much to fix it." It might be worth it to spend a little more and get either a brand new one, or a guaranteed used one from a retailer with a return policy.

I've bought a broken xbox for cheap (it didn't power on), I took it to someone that posted on xbox-scene that repaired it in my area, and it only cost me $20 to fix

You know what they say...

When you can't seem to find something that you've got on you mind... ITS ON EBAY!

www.ebay.com

You can probably get one extremely cheap... so give it a try.

Yea but you have to get one of those "slim" ps2s nowadays that cannot have HDs... which really stinks because it totally stifles FFXI, which requires one to play.

yea, and you can't use HD loader either ;) but at least it comes with the network adapter built in :)

Which is cool... only that you cannot get online exclusive content because you do not have the HD!!!!!

meh....ps2 online does not distribute content at nearly the rate xbl does...so no biggie...

There are quite a few games that deal it out though... most of them are too outragously large, however, to be put on a memory card... The HD was for that... Luckily I still own one!

That stinks... My PS2 is totally fallng apart... and I would buy a new one if not for the fact that I cannot get one with and HD anymore.

See that sony! If you hadn't made that stupid change you would be up about 50 bucks now!

Actually they now are required to fix the DRE's... unfortunately I already opened up my PS2 so I am not able to get tech help with them anymore.
