I just tried to get my PSP online using my PC's built in wireless adapter and couldnt get it to work so I called the very good PSP helpline only to find out that if I want to go online I have to buy a wireless router. I am really pissed off:(

can't you hook up a USB to your pc and connect that way?

You can connect it to your PC to download music, Video, Pictures and content downloads and also make backups of your memory card but you cannot go online (unless there is something I am missing out).
When I called the helpline I was told that a wireless router was needed so that the PSP can automatically configure IP addresses and that there was no way of doing it manually as it is built into the programming to be this way.
If I cant find a solution I will go and buy a wireless router and sell the other 2 that I have here.
If anybody else has been having problems getting their PSP online or if you have a solution to my problem then please help.
Still the PSP is an incredible little machine I cannot believe the speed and smoothness that the games run at. Also the screen is superb high quality.
Buy one now.:)

:( I just bought a wireless router just to go online with my PSP so I hope its worth it. Still I can use it for my PC, X-Box and PS2 and sell the other 2 routers so its not too bad.
I will post a reply as soon as I have tested it.
If anyone else has used/played their PSP online please let me know what you think:D

I got my wireless router.
I tried for ages earlier to get a game online on all of the 4 online compatible games that I have and I couldn't find anybody hosting so I set up games myself and still no luck so I called the helpline... AGAIN!!!!!
It turns out that there are no servers at the minute which is hard to believe considering the importance of the PSP to the gaming industry but this is what I was told.
The plug was pulled the day before release and the 'helpline' have no idea when it will be up and running. They said I should have a browse around on the net to see if I can find any info but I cant.
I can still use the PSP online for browsing the web but that is it.
I am so pissed off about this considering all I have had to buy and do to get the PSP online.

 Apparantly there are no servers set up for online gaming on the PSP and this is why I cant play online.
I am losing interest in it now and so its in the top drawer doing nothing.
I suppose I will have to go back to X-Box live which is much more fun.
:D BURNOUT REVENGE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

 Forget the movies although they do look amazing on the superb high quality screen. It would be great for long journeys but if you like your movies stick to watching them on a nice big widescreen TV in the comfort of your own home and DVD's have added extras which the UMD's don't.
The PSP is a fantastic games machine but remember that all it is, is a mini PS2 and the vast majority of the games that will be released for it will be remakes of PS2 games with a few exceptions.
These 'few exceptions' are what really made me buy one for instance the new GTA Liberty City game which will sell thousands of PSP's but also other games like Mercury which is one of the most frustrating, annoying, difficult but also satisfying games I have ever played.
With regards to the PSP online I really don't know where I am going wrong. You need a wireless router which I bought especially for the PSP and after a little messing around I do have it working online and I can browse the internet, download porn, check e-mails and all sorts of stuff. I even bought a 1gb memory card so I can fit tons of video and pictures on it but I still cant play games online. It may be that you can only play 'online' against people in the immediate area through the wireless link (Ad Hoc Mode) but I want to play online through my router with someone in a different country.
I am going to call the helpline again and pester them until I get a straight answer.
I bought the PSP to play online so if I cant then it will be listed on e-bay very soon (After I Have finished playing GTA).

Yea... I knew that you had to have a wireless router... I already have one set up though so it really isn't a big deal for me. :)
I can only suggest that you go to a coffee shop or someplace with wireless internet access and play there. Also on most campuses there is some kind of wireless network around... just find a few hotspots and enjoy your PSP online
Good luck! :)
