Hmmmmm, noone's sure yet. I reckon as usual, that if something can possibly be delayed it usually is. The frustrating thing is, that there's been so much hype about the PS3 for so long....... the Nintendo Revolution should come out at around the same time, probably mid 2006 (that's what I keep hearing).

But it's Nintendo all the way for me, the games are so much more fun and addictive.

I've read that the PS3 will be about $400, which seems a lot, but I don't know about the Revolution.

I've been seeing around that the PS3 will come out Early Next Year. When PS2 came out, didnt it come out in around Dec - Jan?

I think this is about accurate, but someone correct me if I'm wrong: The original PS2 was announced in April 99, and launched in Japan in around March 2000. The US Version was released in October the same year, after ironing out various supposed hardware bugs. I guess that more or less concurs with the PS3 and tbhe projected launch date for that being mid 2006.

I really do hope they dont release a batch which had a "Disk Read Error" fault in them, like the version 3 PAl edition. I was an unlucky one who had to go out and by another ps2 :(

Looks like the PS3 could be as much as $500:

The PS2 was around £300 in the UK when it first came out. $500 is about £280, so it's actually about £20 cheaper than the PS2 was.

Thats not too bad a price, and also the PS3 has intergrated wi-fi appparntly. Finally I wont have to run cables around again! Although with the Ps2 I could have just spent 60-70 quid on a adapter :(

Just occurred to me that if it's $500 in the US, it might end up being something like £350-£400 in the UK. We tend to get a rough deal compared to the US. Wish I knew why!

it will cost a LOT...Kutagari (sp?) himself said that it's something taht you will have to work extra hard to get enough money to get one...it's not gonna be something everybody can buy...

The one thing that bothers me is the controller, I hope its not the final design.

Yeah, they should've kept the old DualShock design. The DualShock 1 and 2 were my favourite controller designs. The new one doesn't look too bad, but it's not something I wanted. If I throw the PS3 controller in anger, will it come back and hit me in the face?

Agreed. I think the Dual Shock 2 is the best and most comfortable controller out there. With the Atari 2600 joystick as a close second : )
The boomerang just does not look comfortable.

The console makers are realizing that gamers, as a whole, now have more income and more discretion over their own income than in the past. More gamers now get their paychecks once every two weeks rather than once every lawnmowing. I will admit that these gamers also have more and higher expenses, as well, but they are also of the 'instant gratification' generation [and when I say 'they' I mean 'I' as well]. And they're more technologically savvy than in previous generations, and are willing to spend more on entertainment.

Obviously I would "like" them all to come out as cheaply as possible, but I would be surprised if the PS3 releases at anything less than 349-399, and I would not be shocked it it releases at 449-499. The 360 is currently priced ridiculously high; but those are also bundle packages, and I think a bundle package for a new console benefits the manufacturer/retailer, not the gamer/buyer [pricewise].

yes, the bundle is definitely for the benefit of the retailer (EB, etc.); i've heard somewhere that the consoles arent a real big profit and that they are bundling them with stuff to make more money with each console sale...

but yea, the ps3...to be expensive

Yup, consoles are a huge profit loss (The Xbox360 costs a lot more than $399 to make). When a new console comes out, they'd expect a profit loss for about a year, but they'll (the company that produced and developed the console) make a lot of money from the games. Unlike PC games, part of the sales of the games go to the maker of the console (whether Sony, Microsoft, etc), along with the publisher, and that's where the profit comes in. Games are becoming more expensive to make, therefore they're going to be more expensive so that they can make the most profit out of it. If we bought a console and didn't buy any games for it, they wouldn't be making any money (but really, what would be the point of that?), so they try to force us to buy as many games as possible.

I have a huge library of PS2 games. Sony probably loves me. =)

Ye, I've heard of it b4, but it's quite hard to believe, that game console costs more money to make than it costs. Its technology, and parts must cost about the sama price as small sized Sony hd tv, how would they make profit on tv's if they would cost more to make than the acctual price of it?
