I have a Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 SP2 with an AMD sempron 3400+ 512mb DDR2 RAM, 1.80 Ghz.

I am trying to run the game Ceremony of Innocence, which requires Windows 95, Pentium and 16Mb RAM.

Every time I go to install the game, the installer copies the files too 100%, then comes up with a 'Severe' error saying that there is a 'Problem installing DirectX'. Then it closes down the installer

I (obviously) have DirectX already installed on my computer, but even so, it refuses to let me do anything but install, Which it then goes back to the whole 'Severe' error thing. It is also meant to install RSX, which it doesn't get the chance to becasue of the DirectX problem.

What do I have to do to get it working?! Why wont DirectX install? PLease help!

Ceremony of Innocence was created in 1997 by Real World MultiMedia Ltd. and Zablac Entertainment. It has won many awards, including two Baftas in 1998. One Sound Award, and one Moving Images award. It features Paul McGann, Isabella Rossellini and Ben Kingsly

I dont want this game to sit and slowly collect dust before I have even played it! Any Ideas welcome

Cheers

Do the other games work on your computer?

Yeah. I have about a hundred PC games and they all work fine. It is just this one which is having the problem.

What could be wrong? I have run all kinds of Diagnostics and scans and everything is fine. Nothing is acting out of the ordinary.

It has something to do with DirectX. Do you think that having a DirectX that is too up to date would cause problems? I know that sometimes if the computer software is too powerful, things refuse to work, like Simon the Sorceror on the PC. That wont run on my computer because it is for Win 95/98 only.

Do you think that is the problem? My DirectX is too new?

It is most likely the CD you have with you, something might be wrong with it, since you have cleared that the other games work.

The thing was still in a plasic wrapper. It is brand-spanking new.

Not really sure, maybe a corruption of your Windows Installer or DirectX files. Might (use this as last resort if it causes problems elsewhere) to reformat your computer (backing up files first) and reinstalling Windows.

I don't think that is worth it, reformat just for one game? I"d say get a refund, or try the game on another PC just to check if it is the CD in this case.

Tried the game on my home-built PC. Doesn't work either.

And I recently reformatted the PC. The hard drive is checked monthly and defragged weekly. It is virus checked daily and no viruses have got into my PC for over 6 months, which was when my vigil of PC cleanliness began. And even then it was only the false trojan 'Complete' and false trojan 'trajan_looksy'

I may give up with the game. And i'm sure the company who created it is actually based in my town, so I may look them up if they are still there

your comp is probs just not compatible with it for example most vista users cant play diablo 2 some older games are just to dated for newer systems
