Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - Game Boy Advance (Released 2003)
"Thought it was time for a GBA game to be reviewed"
Now ill get this out of the way first, if you are expecting this game to be direct sequal to the 1997 PS1 game Final Fantasy Tactics, than stop there, because it is far from it. Although this game is set in the same world, Ivalice, it is just a game suited in the same style as FFT with no control over the character outside of the countless battles which is the majority of the game.
The game begins with Marche, a boy new to the town called St. Ivalice, at school playing a game of snowball with his classmates, this part of the game is a tutorial and its also where you meet Ritz and Mewt, who become Marches friends. After the match, Marche offer Mewt and Ritz to come round his house to meet his brother Donned, who is sick, and stuck in a wheelchair, they both agree though Metw goes to pick up a strange book from the bookstore. At Marches house the four of them explore the book and find ancient writing and drawings, they then discuss about their favourite game and what it would be like to be in such a world, and the game Final Fantasy is bought up.
At night while Mewt is asleep however, the books turns the town of Ivalice into a country, full of swordfights and magic. Marche meets Montblanc, a moogle, who acts as Marche's guide in Ivalice. Marche meets Montblanc's clan Nutsy, which can be player named, where then they do missions over Ivalice. The game slowly unfolds with certain missions that unlock with an amount of missions complete and places uncovered, with the story of Marche trying to find a way home.
As explained, the game is a series of different missions, where the characters are controlled in 2-D areas. There are laws which change with each battle and they are upheld by judges and if broken characters go to jail and must be bailde out. There are jobs in which a single character can learn abilities as different jobs threw out the game. New members to the clan will seek to join at times, and weapons and item can be purchased from cities, each weapon, and some armour, have their own abilites that can be learned.
This game takes a long time to complete and is fun for those who enjoyed the orginal. It has a twisting storyline that hooks you in and a large number of foes and magic attacks to use. A sequal to this game is coming out on DS shortly which does not include any characters from the first, but some from FF12.
I loved this game, i admit i still have not completed it yet, for it takes so long to complete, it's a great game for all FF fans.
