Secret Of Evermore

RPG Game

Secret Of Evermore is an RPG game that was produced by Square Co. Ltd for the SNES platform. Date of Release is 1995.

The game begins with an observation of the town of Podunk, showing kids on the block playing with marbles, to the cinemas, then it gets to the main scene of the Mansion, where an experiment is taking place, "A tinker here and there" then you'll notice something goes wrong with the experiment. *BANG*

Many years later, you'll see the present day Podunk, from ironically the same looking kids playing Marbles, to the different shops, and then to Cinema called Cinemax in this time.
A young boy comes out of the cinemax with his Dog, talking about the movie in general.

The Dog then chases a cat into the other street, at which the boy runs after his dog as well, just to find the abandoned mansion, which we already learnt of the incident in the mansion, unfortunately the boy has no idea of it.

Upon discovering the Lab in the mansion, the boy goes to a mysterious machine, the dog runs and bites the wires, which traionsforms him into many forms of dogs until we see that he has dissapeared, the boy likewise enters the machine, thus getting teleported.

Soon enough he finds himself in a futuristic laboratory, where he sees an old professor, and a robot butler, later on you discover a Bazooka to use, and destroy the enemies in the area, only to end up in a completely different world, that you would never guess.

-----------------------

This game is the follow-up to the popular RPG Secret Of Mana, made by the same company, ironically the two games don't have much to do in common in terms of storyline, but the game play in general is the same, from the fighting styles right down to the Graphics itself.

I, myself was overwhelmed at how difficult(at the time) the game was, and whenever you got to one point, the game seemed to drag on, and increase your further understanding of the game.

The game itself is quite long. Also the use of Magic is quite unique, where in this case it is in the form of Alchemy which is a system of using ingredients you find, to enable yourself to use these spells, Flash being my personal favourite.

The music is good, most of the songs seemed to fit the place, and time as well as set the mood.

------------------------

The storyline is quite superb, with many revelations and twists, you'll have to play the game to find out the twists, and by the time you're playing it, you'll find it quite difficult to put the controller down, unless you reach an obstacle that you can't finish, well for me that is :D

RATE: 9/10

This game came late in the SNES's life, and for me, it appears to be americans trying to take on the Japanese at RPGs, which they're always going to lose!

In Super Play, one of the most respected SNES magazines ever, Secret of Mana was voted 8th greatest SNES game ever, and scored 94%, whilst Evermore was at #81 and scored 81% (easy to remember)!

Not that I'm doubting your opinion and the quality of the review, but me thinks you've been very generous giving this title a 9!! Perhaps in reflection, an 8 may have been more appropriate :p

Aww, we don't hate you, but is this game really on par with the likes of Chrono Trigger, Halo 3 and Street Fighter 2?? :p

No, no.

Feedback is much appreciated Nintendgod, just that I had so much fun with this game, and man fighting that Salabog Boss brings back memories.

The 9 stands :D, I personally had very fond memories with this game, and it is my opinion right LOL!!!

I prefer this over Som, lol, my opinion that is.

I am doubly pleased I gave S.O.M a whopping 9.5/10!

Noticed the 10s have been given out left, right and centre.....I hope we don't have a glossary of just high rated games. We want some real terrible games reviewed to. My lowest score dished out is 6.5, and the lowest is for Crash Twinsanity, 3! We want more crappy games!

It's ok, forgot to add that LOL @ the end of my post :D

Also, what do you think of the review, you can try out these games, by downloading the Emulator caz, it is really simple.

You can go here ---- www.emulator-zone.com to download any emulator, just not the new ones, they bite :D

I wouldn't even begin to try to get Caz into games. Although I do think she could get a Wii or DS Lite and have some fun with those, as they are very accessible. In fact....do your daughters have a DS Lite?

edit : ok, time for me to review a really frightful game....watch this space.

She likes games to an extent, I think the emulator zone would be good for her, she grew up with the Atari if I'm not mistaken, so it should be good for her :D

Anyways, the game is quite good on its own, I chose this over mana, because of the cover, and still have no regrets.

BTW, I have played Som, and it is ok to an extent.

Thanks for the feedback guys, the game should be one of the best, but I guess it is under rated, which is a shame :D
