How do I join the review team?

1. If you are interested in joining the review team then simply write a review using this format:



State the name of the game you wish to review, the format and the year it was released. Put this in bold text at the top, for example:

Final Fantasy X - Playstation 2 (Released 2001)

Then write a few paragraphs about the game, what it involves, what its like, how you feel about it, how its presented. Use the other reviews already posted as a guide to how reviews are written.

Finish off by adding a score out of 10. The score can only be a round number or by halfs, ie 8/10 or 8.5/10.....NOT 8.7, 4.9 etc. Plus make the size of the score "size 4", then bold it....and use the style below as an example:

Score : 9.5/10

Then, please could you add 3 or 4 jpeg images of the game and box. Find an image and add it below the score. If you have any questions about how to add images, please feel free to contact me.




2. Next PM the GF Journalist Editor "cw695356" and say you would like to join and show the the review you wrote. Please take extra care in spelling and grammar, and please please check your review thoroughly before submitting.

3. If we like what we see and think your ready to write a review then we can then add you to the elite group of GF Journalists!

I've said before, it would create too much work as there are too many errors and mistakes. So no, you won't become a reviewer, not for now anyway.

Not perfect, Nin is just a perfectionist, I find, juts copy it into a work document, then the spelling mistakes come out for you, and dont forget the "perfect format" :D

A) It's not hard to follow a simple format - anyone worth their salt will do this.

B) Requesting that the reviews are to not have spelling mistakes and have decent grammar is not being a perfectionist....its doing everyone else who reads the reviews a favour.

C) If both of the above are followed, it shows that the person can READ and understand the most basic instructions. If I were to read a review in videogame magazine "Edge" (for example), and all the reviews were all over the place, had poor grammar and had spelling mistakes....I would lose interest and get another magazine.

Lightning, being a "perfectionist" in this instance is totally justified, and you know it.

Sure he's a respectfully mod now and don't need to brake the unforgettable rule, but you have to think that a mod is someone that is active and is a very god member therefore giving them the awesome ability to sometimes sneekly break the rules sometimes and I know lightning doesn't do that much at all.

I came here because I would like to share my reviews with as many members of the retrogaming community as possibe.

I hope I'm not violating any rules here. I want to post reviews, but not as lined out in written format. My feeling on the matter is that there are already many many sources on the web to find written reviews. Instead, I take it upon myself to make high quality, informative and accurate video reivews on youtube.

This is where I'm unsure how to proceed. I've already completed two reviews, and simply want to share them with this community, not conjoin with it.

My main intrists are Famicom and NES games, but I will review anything I currently have. For a sample of my reviews, I've already finished two: Famicom Wars and Balloon Fight.

Your forum system is preventing me from linking but if that can be somehow disabled I'll be happy to link to my reviews.

I'd like to be able to post a thread for this on my own, or am I in the wrong section for that? Thanks whoever responds.

i think we should be allowed to post reviews into a "mediocre review section", then every so often, a mod could have a quick glance at all the "mediocre" reviews and select the ones that he/she thinks are good enough and move them into the proper "review" section.

People who post 5 or more good reviews should then be allowed to post freely in the Review section straight away, as they have proved they can write good reviews and can be trusted not to spam the proper review section.

Just be patient. There are plenty of applicants, and we have a review team anyway.

I haven't had time to answer. Besides, if you go through another mod....no doubt they'll let you on straight away, as quality control goes straight out the window. Look at that most recent "addition" to the review team :rolleyes:

Yeah, word of advice don't make posts such as "Ok, thnx", or "Alright then", it not only makes you look like a non contributing member, but it could cite for infractions on the grounds of posting to get your post count up....just a word of advice.

is it alright to write funny-ish un-serious reviews? personally, i think amateur reviewers here should make some of their reviews entertaining to read whether that be humour, pictures, videos.

if i wanted a serious review, i'd probably go check out a proper website that does game reviews such as Gamespot or IGN.

i'm not saying that reviewers should stop making reviews if they're not funny, but it's nice to have some reviews that are also jokeful and just for the fun of it.

Well I believe it was involving you and some posts of yours, but mainly was said by P-Sleva. To be honest, its now a relief that I can't be accused of this anymore.....as at least I wasn't a silly little teenage boy on a desperate power trip and obsessed by "ranks". It's actually quite shameful how these boards are run like some sort of army camp with hierachy.

I don't know whether there is a certain number, just as long as you do several good reviews, than I'm sure you should be able to become a reviewer. Oh and don't rush doing reviews, just so you can become one, because you only may end up rushing and ruining your reviews trying to get it up quickly, and depending on how many games you have, you may end up rushing through all the ones you can review.

i would like to review games! I treat the game fairly by looking at all aspects and relate to fans as well. No game will be over rated due to bias thoughts. I have a DS, PS2 and in two days a 360.

also i forgot to mention im new to this site to i cant write on this perticular forum at the moment. maybe change this for me?

Only GF journos and Mods can post reviews in this section. You need to write a review and then PM it to cw.

I'm wondering if it's allowed to write a review of a game you've downloaded.

For example, I've just ordered the R4 revolution + SD card for my NDS, which kind of gives me unlimited access to all NDS games. Is there a possibility that I could write about the games I've given a shot, even though they're rom'd, or is this not allowed?

Hmmm good question, I think that would be one for the mods, but if you were allowed you'd still have to follow the general rules at least for each game.

Well if it was Rom'd than just state the original console it's for, but talk about the game from your own perspective.

Mind you, to be a journalist you have to be PM CW with a make up review.

I've submitted my review for another WiiWare, so it may or may not be up. I personally think the WiiWare out so far is pretty bonus.

Can normal members write mini-reviews outside of the GAME REVIEWS section, seeing as only GF Mods and Journalists can write the big, popular ones? :D
