Full Throttle - PC/MAC (Released 1995)
Genre: Point and Click Adventure I've been wondering what to review lately, and just a few minutes ago I thought that I would share with you the greatly forgotten and underrated LucasArts game that is Full Throttle. The game is a point and click adventure in the vein of Kings Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Sam and Max, and Escape from Monkey Island, all of which were point and click adventures by game making greats LucasArts and Sierra, both of whom dominated the adventure genre through the early 80's to late 90's. In the game you play as Ben Throttle, the leader of the biker gang The Polecats. You embark on a great adventure to prove your innocence, release your gang from jail, and ultimately bring a murderer to justice. On your way through the great futuristic land that is your playground, you will battle rival biker gangs, solve puzzles and have to use both quick wits and reflexes to topple all that stands in you way. Great cartoon like graphics still hold up till today, and the use of both some great animations, beautiful backgrounds and some superb models make Full Throttle a joy to play from beginning to end. The graphics are just one of the many high points of the game, as it is supported by a thumping soundtrack by the biker band The Gone Jackals, and as expected of LucasArts, excellent voice work. In your journey you will be joined by memorable characters, unexpected plot twists and unorthodox gameplay changes. The only thing that really hurts Full Throttle is it's short length, which isn't too bad, but fails in comparison to the other classic point and click adventure games of its era. One of the games strengths is the way the core gamplay can change. For the majority of the game you are walking from place to place, collecting items and interacting with people and objects. Before you know it, the game switches perspective and you find yourself riding Ben's Corley bike down a highway, controlling him; and engaging rival bikers in close combat. Another scene has you drive a demolition derby car, trying to take out other cars. The game is a classic in every sense of the word. A trademark of the game has been its black humor, with Ben letting off witty remarks if you do something wrong or if you command him to do something he cannot do, or moreover, that he refuses to do. Overall Full Throttle is a wild ride, which to this day retains a small cult following; and if you're a fan of nostalgia and used to love games of this style, or if you're just looking for something different; try to get yourself a copy of Full Throttle. Score: 9/10 ![]() ![]() ![]()

1995 apparently. I had never heard of it, which is odd, as I adored SCUMM games from Lucasart....was a huge fan of Maniac Mansion, Tentacle, Monkey Island etc etc.
Might have to seek this one out! |
